Students Earn National Recognition on World Languages Exams

For over 10 years, Le Grand Concours, The National French Contest, and the National Spanish Examination have been an integral part of our BSS Middle School World Languages curriculum. We are proud to announce that several BSS students achieved national recognition for excellent performance on both exams. In French, our students earned a total of 2 Silver Medals, 4 Bronze Medals, and 4 Honorable Mentions in the 83rd Le Grand Concours, a national competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French.  

In taking Le Grand Concours, students were evaluated for their written and listening comprehension skills in French.  Our BSS students listed below achieved a national ranking among more than 70,000 students in all 50 states who competed in the 2019 National French Contest:


6th Grade Honorable Mention: Isabel Hurd
7th Grade Bronze Medal: Heather Schofield
8th Grade Honorable Mention: William Conaton, Owen Hull, Lucy Voelker
8th Grade Bronze Medal: Anna Connolly Lisle, Sophie Ledonio, and Hillary McKay
8th Grade Silver Medal: Mia Passantino and Helena Williams

BSS has a long history of high achievement on the National Spanish Examination. For 2019, our students earned a total of 1 Gold,  2 Silver Medals, 4 Bronze Medals, and 6 Honorable Mentions on the exam. Each year, the exam is administered in Grades 6 through 12 by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Our BSS students who achieved this recognition among the 150,000 students participating in 2019 are:


6th Grade Honorable Mention: Kendall Gossel, Henry Leopold, Andrew Madden, Maddie Roche
7th Grade Honorable Mention: Char Hrobsky, Dani Salinas
Bronze Medal: Lucy Boehlert, Matthew Gay, Cadence McCarthy and Maeve O’Brien
Silver Medal: Lucas Castro and Katerina Skowronek
Gold Medal: Alexandra Stuart
